John W. Makokha is an accomplished educationist and researcher with over thirteen (13) years of expertise in theoretical applied nuclear and environmental physics. He focuses on minimizing radiation exposure and mitigating anthropogenic climate change impacts through integrated Machine Learning and remote sensing techniques. A strong advocate for using physics to address climate change, John promotes renewable energy sources to reduce human-induced environmental effects. Recently, he has been involved in developing a SMART technology to assess the effects of climate change on biodiversity and improve the livelihoods of local communities, among other projects. So far, in collaboration with national and international partners, John has attracted and managed six (6) research grants from various funding agencies globally. He is currently developing an integrated approach using hyperspectral imaging and machine learning techniques to enhance biodiversity conservation in Kenya’s protected areas. This is an innovative opportunity to appreciate the application of physics principles in biodiversity conservation. John frequently presents at national and international conferences on the latest trends in his field. He earned his PhD in Environmental Physics from the University of Nairobi in December 2016. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Environmental/Atmospheric Physics and Chair of the Department of Science, Technology, and Engineering at Kibabii University where he also serves as an expert and consultant in his area of specialization. He has also acted as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Student Affairs) (from 1st July 2024 to 30th September 2024) at Kibabii University in Kenya. So far, John has published over sixty publication articles in refereed journals as highlighted in his Researchgate and Google Scholar accounts.
